  • my old one had got some of the insulation lagging wrapped / burned round the spindle - which led to its failure. check the motor turns freely and has nothing jammed etc when you installed it By DBmotors - Stansted - 11 May 2010

Hi, my guess is that the wires are not all connected properly - I'd double check what you've already done and see if you've made any errors. Of course you must remember to unplug your cooker first and let it stand for at least ten minutes so it drains of all residual power!

Unless the motor is running slow it is more likely to be the fan element rather than the fan.

The fan should spin up quickly and run after switching off as shown in our video: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/12/1857/how-to-avoid-a-christmas-nightmare For more information see our video: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/1/2081/how-to-change-the-cooling-fan-on-an-oven

Answer this question

Hi ! Our oven (AEG B8871-5) has started to trip the fuse box when switching off the oven - the oven operates ok and it's only when pressing the off switch it trips the switch. After some trial and error have isolated the issue to when using a mode that uses the fan. I don't think it's an element issue since get the problem when using either the top grill element or the main ring element. Also have tried the grill element with and without the fan and without the fan there is no problem. Any idea what's causing this and also what extra event occurs when switching off ? e.g. does the fan speed increase to cool off ? Thanks in advance, Richard

Hi worthywow, I'm not exactly sure why there's a surge only when turning off the oven. The fan is only one-speed - it doesn't rotate faster when you turn the oven off. Aside from that, it's hard to diagnose without having a look! I'd advise getting someone in the know to come round and investigate.

  • yes - you need a new fan motor....and quick before you blow the heating element! dont use the oven until mended. its a straightforward job the element glows because there is no fan to pass air over it - which cools the element and heats the overn By DBmotors - Stansted - 11 May 2010
