According to the instructions you will need to wash the filter every 6 months and only replace if it has become damaged.

This is not shown as being washable on the part so we would advice not to wash it as it may restrict air flow.

It is likely your filter has picked up the contamination from the air drawn through your machine and not from the motor. The grease could be from cooking or even animal hairs.

The seals fit between the motor body and the hepa filter that is fitted after the motor underneath the dust canister.

Answer this question

Why does this come without an attached seal when it is so important to the function of the machine, and why is it not integral, surely the extra cost is neglible.

Hi Malcolmx, I'm inclined to agree that the seal should be included with this seal, however Dyson supply the parts separately and we sell them as such.

  • The HEPA filter doesn’t come with a seal but I would recommend that you buy the new seal as well – it’s only £2.79. Search ES104853 for the HEPA Filter Vacuum Seal to go with this filter. On mine, the seal has fused itself to the old filter and just disintigrates as I try and seperate it. I've now got to wait for the new seal to arrive. (Filter arrived the day after I ordered it though, so absolutely no complaints with eSpares) By DrCaz - Woking - 21 January 2009
