If the compressor is hot it indicates that power is trying to make it run. If it is not making the regular 'fridge' noise from the compressor then it is likely it is seized and requires replacement by an engineer.

If the compressor runs but no cooling it is either a faulty compressor, system blockage or the gas has escaped. All of these faults can only be repaired by a competent refrigeration engineer.

If the fridge is freezing food and will not cut off when adjusted it is likely the thermostat is faulty. If the motor runs but it does not get cold or the motor is hot and does not run then this is not a faulty thermostat.
