It is overheating, this is either due to poor air flow from blocked filers or hoses or a failing motor.

You need to dismantle the vacuum and remove the brushes to see if there is enough carbon left on them to contact the motor correctly. If worn they will often cause blackening of the armature contacts.

Hi. I have just replaced the carbon brushes on a Dyson DC07 vac motor which had stopped working. The motor is now working but sparking heavily. Do you know why this is happening? Thanks your help.

If the motor has overheated it may have a short between windings causing excess current. Try using a fine abrasive paper to clean the brass armature and retry. If it quickly blackens it is likely to be a faulty motor.

I have taken the carbon brush assembly off the motor, but it is not obvious how you get the old brushes out.
- Carefully lift the 2 or 3 small tabs on the back of the old brush assembly with a small flat ended screwdriver, in the centre you'll see a spot solder-weld just about covering the end of a copper wire - this is the end of the carbon brush, undo this and remove the old brush, re-insert the new brush and spring and re-solder the end of the new wire in the same place. Press the 2 or 3 tabs back into place and insert the whole assembly back into the motor. HTH Riz

The motor brushes on my DC07 are worn and both require replacement. However my plastic brush holder sleeve has a small square copper end plate to which the brush copper fly lead is spot welded.How do you terminate the new brush copper fly lead ? Thanks 1 Answer
i have just removed the brushes from a dyson dc 14 cleaner how do i remove the old brushes from the casing and replace with new brushes. where can i view the espares video of this action
