my smeg dishwasher df612fas handle has broken and i have bought a new handle from e spares but cannot open the door to change the handle any help please guys

smeg dishwasher model number DF612SDX7 Door is jammed lock after replacing door handle lever
- maybe the handle was fitted back-to-front? I think this is possible to do
