4 Questions and 4 Answers

Many Dyson filters say to rinse them under a tap but not to use detergent to clean them. Why is that? Surely some mild green washing up liquid won't harm them? Using a detergent does help get them a lot cleaner.

It may be that detergent residue if not rinsed thoroughly may become sticky and block quickly. If that is the manufacturers advice we would suggest you follow it.

Answer this question

I have cleaned the filter every couple of weeks. I cannot see where the dust is getting past the filter but at the post filter stage it has a lot of fine dust attached to the body of the motor under the post motor filter. The post motor filter is very dirty also. What can I check and which parts do I need. I think I could do with some new filters and housing?

  • One thing to check is that your pre-motor filter is securely fastened in. Check that the securing clip hasn't broken or on the verge of breaking. We've had 2 of these clips go ourselves and it seems to be a weak spot on the vacuum. If there is any slight "mis-fit" of the pre-motor filter then dust particles will get sucked in around that area, leading to a clogged and dirty post filter. hope this helps By atari001 - - 16 April 2010

Hi Murt, if you twist this part loose, using a 'softly-softly' approach, it should come loose.
