The live spade terminal on the mains unit started to melt under normal operation please explain what may cause a fault of this nature 1 Answer
I noticed a smell of burning on investigation the live spade connector on the mains unit has heat damage on both the unit(where the flex is terminated) and on the six pin spade connector. Is it simply a case of replacing this part is there something else that may of caused this type of fault. The washing machine was operating normally before I switched it off when I worked out the smell of burning was coming from the machine

When the machine is heating it will draw a lot of current. If the connections are slightly loose this will create resistance and the current will produce heat. This softens the connector which loosen even more and causes more heat until it burns. This is not likely to be due to any other fault on the machine as if it was drawing more power then it should the fuse in the plug would blow. When repairing the connections it is important to replace and burnt or damaged parts and ensure the connectors are as tight as possible to prevent reoccurance.
