I bought a new Flymo Lawnmower Hub Adaptor as old got damaged and didn't hold the fan and cutter but now I can't fix this new one do you know how to fix it Please
- Reply by GP - 10 September 2010 is correct. "Take out the screw and loosen the tabs by hand (or with a flat blade screw driver) and take off the cap" - My model had 3 screws and no tabs but the rest is the same. Tip carefully clean out the screw heads before trying to remove screws to prevent rounding them off. It is NOT a push fit. If you do this your "repair" will last no time at all.
- I bought one of these for my mower and found this pretty straight forward to fit. It is hard to remove the old part, because the shaft that it is attached will rotate, but don't be tempted to pull it off as it could damage the bearing that the mower shaft sits in. The best way i found to fit this is remove the plate on the hub that holds the blades and the fan underneath it. Turn the mower up right and remove the orange lid. There's only a couple of screws either side and a slot in tab on the front (this is a good opportunity to clean out the filters etc!). Once the lid is off you'll see a brown black cap over the top of the motor. There is one screw and a couple of tabs at the side. Take out the screw and loosen the tabs by hand (or with a flat blade screw driver) and take off the cap. You'll now see the other end of the motor shaft which has a slot in it for a screwdriver. Turn the mower on its side and with a screw driver in the slot you can prevent the mower shaft from turning while you unscrew the hub adapter by hand. Screw on the new one in the same way (I was cautious about over tightening in case it stripped the threads inside the hub). Refit all the plastic gubbins and you're up and running. For info i've not done this before and it's pretty simple to do. If you get lost check out the exploded diagram on this site!
- It is just a PUSH FIT. Press hard and it will click into place.
- you need to hold fan still so that you can screw it on
I'm confused by the contradictory advice on the above subject. Some reviews say the part screws on, others say it is push fit. I've tried both without success (having remembered to prevent the spindle from rotating). The situation may be complicated in my case by the fact that the original hub adaptor was shredded, the bolt now has less than a centimeter of useable thread showing, the rest of the bolt is black (I presume this is melted plastic, whatever it is I've been unable to remove it with either wire brush or screwdriver). How should I proceed?
- use a stanley knife to remove left on black plastic from spindle and thread.when clean smear a smalldrop of washing up liquid on new hub on inside of new hub. lock spindle shaft with suitable screwdriver push new hub on shaft, then maintain pressure whilst turning hub clockwise this will enable thread to cut into new hub creating a thread in hub, keepscrewing till hub is well onto shaft and tight.
I can't screw new hub on the motor shaft it is not screwing what do I have to do?
- It is just a PUSH FIT. Press hard and it will click into place.
hi , before I go ahead and purchase this item can you tell me how to fit it ?
- Remove the cutting head, twist and turn in direction of the arrow on the base. Remove the fan assembly by pulling/levering it off the hub adaptor. Remove unserviceable hub adaptor, unscrew, pull or cut it off. Put new item on the motor shaft screwing it into position. Push the fan assembly onto the hub adaptor. Install the cutting head with a twist and a turn to lock it.
