Should the two 'pipes' meet or almost meet as the gap is very large and is wider than the seal dimensions even though the filter housing is locked into place ??? 1 Answer

The two parts should meet enough to partially compress the seal and ensure no loss of suction is allowed.

It is likely this seal will push into the moulding on the machine body or pipe.
