i have tried what your videos were showing there doesnt appear to be any movement on the drum. The drum seems to move fairly free but there is a scraping sound as if something is catching. Looking at the drum and tub clearence the gap seems to get larger and smaller as the drum rotates which to me means that either something such as a spindle has bent or the hub has maybe cracked as this would appear that it is out of line

  • Hi thought it was worth posting again in case someone else had same problem. I decided to try the machine again and it was whining as well as scraping so thought the only way now was to strip the drum out, nothing to lose. You were right on both counts there was a bra wire inside but also the spider had cracked in two places and its the riveted type so now going to weigh up the cost of replacement against a new one. Its done well its 11 years old now and its had some work so was a good buy. By Alan - Darlington - 21 July 2015

Occasionally the three spoke 'spider' that attaches the drum to the pulley shaft can fracture and firm pressure on the drum lip would usually allow the drum to move. However it may be just a bra wire or other object caught. There is often a little eccentricity of the drum lip.

We don't think this is likely to be possible but have answered to our best knowledge. If anyone knows different and sends an answer to this we will of course publish for future information.
