My Neff W4380X1GB washing machine is playing up. The drum sometimes rotates and sometimes doesn't. There are a few sparks coming from within the motor when it does turn so I suspect a new set of brushes might be the fix. How do I replace them? Do I need to remove the motor first? Do you have intrusctions? Thanks.

  • It does sound like brushes, i have never played with a neff but would suggest you do remove the motor, it makes fitting easier and gives you the opportunity to maybe clean up the commutator (the sliced up copper ring thing at the end that the brushes rub against) with fine sand paperand blow out the carbon dust if it has been sparking it will be a bit sooty! note: the brushes have angled ends and fit two ways (wrong and right) so note how the old ones come out. I've found this article which may help, I'd also suggest looking through our advice centre on the site. I would however suggest that if you are inexperienced with fixing electrical appliances to contact an engineer as it can be dangerous when dealing with live electric cabling. http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/spare-parts-shop/hotpoint-carbon-brushes-diagnostics.html

Answer this question

I am replacing the brushes in my Bosch WF0285SGB/08 (2004) washing machine. There is a choice of two types for this model depending on which type of motor is fitted, how can I determine what motor is fitted?

Answer this question

I have a Bosch WFO 2467GB/01 that needs new motor brushes. I have removed the old ones but I am not sure which of the two models listed to order as a replacement. I don't see any way of identifying whether the motor is a Siemens or FHP. Your recent reply to Chris of Sussex suggested either model would fit his machine. Does this apply to all machines? Many thanks

The FHP brushes are supplied in their holders and cannot interchange with the usual Bosch Siemens brushes that the holders are fixed to the motor.

Answer this question

The Bosch washing machine part number is WAE24364/19 and I need to replace the carbon brushes on the motor. I have taken the motor out but cannot see anywhere that says what type of motor it is. There are lots of numbers on the motor but nothing that says Siemens or FHP. I have also taken the brushes out but the two different types on the eSpares site appear very similar in design, so determining whether or not the motor is Siemens or FHP is crucial. Many thanks
