Belts are designed to snap should the brushroll become blocked - in order to protect the motor. If you wish to maintain an effective cleaning performance from your vacuum, it is recommended that the belt is replaced every 4-6 months. This is because over time they can become stretched and therefore less effective.

Once of the obvious signs that suggest the belt would need to be replaced is if you notice that the brush bar is failing to spin, and other faults with the belt could be that it displays burn marks. Some of the reasons as to why the brushroll may not be able to turn include factors such as hair and thread from carpets becoming tangled around the bar.
