Your dishwasher uses a pair of springs that connect the door to the body! Door hinge springs have been designed to provide balanced tension so that the dishwasher's door does not fall open or snap shut.

Over time, hinge springs can either weaken or break, which can cause the dishwasher door to fall open if unsupported or fail to close properly. If the dishwasher door quickly drops open without any resistance, it's likely that at least one or both of the springs are damaged.
