The pump assembly is attached to the back of the tumble dryer and is not a fluff filter, it is unlikely to have a sock go into it.
I bought this kit some while ago and just came to fit it. Unfortunately I can't see how to get the top off the old pump. I don't want to force it too much in case I break it? Is there a video for it?

The pump assembly is attached to the back of the dryer using the plastic tabs and barbs to hold these in place. To remove these (I have changed many) You can usually just carefully prise them out with a flat bladed screwdriver. If you break a tab you have a new housing cover in the kit supplied.
does it come with the float microswitch as well as the float ?

The micro switch should be removed from the old pump and transferred as it is not supplied as part of this kit.
