The orange part protrudes through the the plastic front of the dishwasher into the handle bay - but where is the lever or mechanism that operates this latch? That's the part I need!
From the front of the dishwasher, if you look up into the compartment where you put your hand to open the door, there is only this fragile orange plastic 'stick' that can be seen. We seem to be missing a piece that actually operates this latch shown to open the door - what part is that?

- Thank Eastander! That's the solution. saved a Yorkshire lass some brass!
- When all else failed, I read the instructions! I found that this is in fact a crude child lock system explained right at the back of the manual. You can re-set it by stick a match in the tiny hole and pushing the protruding stick to the right as far as it will go or in fact, I've found you can actually re-set it by just pushing it as far right and in to the door as you can with your finger and wiggling it a bit! It then clicks and stays there. Does come out again occasionally, about once per month.
- I have exactly the same problem.Did you ever find the answer? Tony
