Does this affect suction

I've inherited a Dyson DS08 green and purple little vaccuum cleaner but the edge of the bin is badly chipped. The suction works fine the first few seconds the machine is on but then there's a soft 'pop' and it reduces to half. I'm wondering if the chipped edge of the bin is letting air in/out.

Hi, take a look at this video on what to do if there's a loss of suction on your vacuum: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/vacuum-cleaners/a/4/1313/loss-of-suction-dyson-dc05.html The model featured in the video is a DC05, but this is a similar, older version of the DC08. Check your filters, as well as for any blockages or splits. If you can feel air escaping from the bin, I'm confident that you'd need a new bin. If not, it'd be the motor. Hope this helps.
