Metal hinge flexibility

This is the hinge I need and I have taken the door apart as per your fitting video - however, my hinge needs replacing as the 2 metal prong bits snapped. I have managed to get the 2 broken bits out of the plastic part on the door by pushing a sharp object in the other end of the hole. So if I buy this part, do those metal prong bits retracted into themselves in order to get in the gap between the plastic and then expand back out into the 2 holes. If the metal is solid, then I dont know how I will be able to get it in. I hope that all makes sense
