There are 'horse shoe' shaped springs that hold the four pillars on to studs on the door. To remove then find a flat bladed screwdriver the size of the hole in the side of the pillar insert and twist to open the horse shoe. Try on the new handle first to see how it works and just insert the blade enough to move the spring but not to much to catch the studs. When refitting the pillar on the stud you may have to 'thump' the handle to push onto the stud and ensure a tight fit.
