What is the best waterproof sealant to use in a crack in the plastic water butt please?

A multi purpose silicone is good for a glue and sealant but may not have much physical strength. For this reason it may be a good idea to 'patch' over the area inside the water butt with a similar plastic cut from a washing up bottle or similar using the silicone to seal and waterproof the repair.
