If your oven is switched on, but the fan isn't spinning, it seems that you have a faulty motor that needs to be replaced. Fans actually come in two parts - there’s the motor that sits behind the oven cavity, the fan blade that sits inside the oven cavity. These are usually sold as three separate spare parts.
Whatever the reason for your fan not performing correctly if you need to replace the fan motor in your oven, then you will be pleased to know that you have come to the right place!
If you are unsure where to start there’s no need to panic. We’ll talk you through how to successfully replace the fan motor without damaging your oven.
This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.
What You Will Need:
Step 1 - Safety Advice (Turn Off Your Cooker)
Safety First! Please make sure that you have switched your appliance off at the mains before starting your repair.
Step 2 - Remove Oven From Cavity (If Built-In)
If you have a built-in oven like the one in this video, you will need to remove it from its cavity and to do this simply remove the screws either side of the cavity and lift it out - followed by then removing any cables if required at the back. Your cooker is now in an open space so you can really begin to get to work now!
Step 3 - Removing The Panels
At this stage we need to remove the door. Now on most oven doors, there will be a latch on either hinge, that when moved into the open position will allow you to close the door up and gently lift it out. Next thing to come off is the back panel. If this is held in place by Torx head screws - you can use a Torx bit on the end of a screwdriver to remove these.
Next we need to remove the panel that sits in front of the fan, and on the oven in the video this is held in place by four Torx head screws. Remove the nut, which is actually reverse thread - so it loosens the opposite way you might think! (If it proves to be a bit tight or stubborn in coming out, then you can use a spanner or some pliers if you wish).
Step 4 - Disconnect Faulty Fan Motor
Let’s get the old fan out now……right here we go, as you can now see the fan motor you need to remember how it sits, ready for when you add the new one.
eSpares Top Tip: take a photograph at this stage, so you know which way to put the wires onto your new fan motor. What you’ll need to do is remove any wires, this one has an earth terminal but it isn’t earthed (but yours might be). Simply uncouple the wires from the motor, and you are now ready to remove the three holding screws that are keeping the fan motor in place - and it can then be lifted away.
Step 5 - Putting In New Motor
The time has come for that new fan motor! Slot in the motor and put the screws in, then simply re-attach the wires. All that is left now is to start putting things back together again - starting with the back panel. Next you can now put the blade on, followed by the nut - but remember it tightens in the opposite direction to what you may think! (Again if it proves a bit tight, you can use a socket wrench or pliers to help).
All that remains now is to put the panel back on inside your oven in front of the fan, re-fit the door - (remembering to put the latches down on the door when you are re-fitting so you can close your door) and fit the oven back into the cabinet.
Congratulations - you have now successfully been able to replace the fan motor on your oven! You can now get back to creating scrumptious meals for dinner again.
