How to Fix An Oven Door Handle

If you have been a little heavy-handed and accidentally damaged the handle on your oven, there is no need to worry as it is a problem that you (yeah, that’s right - you!) can fix. If you are unsure where to start, don't panic we’ll talk you through how to successfully fix the door handle without damaging your oven.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

• Screwdriver
• Soft mat or towel

Safety First! Please make sure that you have isolated your appliance off at the mains before starting your repair.

Here comes an eSpares Top Tip - if you have previously removed the handle from your oven door, keep hold of the screws and washers for it - as these can be pretty difficult to obtain.

You need to remove the oven door now, by simply lifting up the hinge catches to lock the hinges - you can now gently lift the door up and away from your oven.

Rest the door on top of your oven (you can protect the door by resting it on a soft mat or towel)

With you now having some room to be able to work on the door, you will be able to separate the outer door from the inner door. All you need to do is remove the screws at the bottom and then any other screws at the top.

With these screws now removed you can now lift up the inner door and the hinges - you are now presented with the outer door.

You can see here that there are holes where the door handle should go through, and they are retained by a bracket which isn't fully connected - so do be careful about that.

Gather your screws and get that new handle ready, we have a screw with two spacer washers, one locking washer and then a plastic washer which goes on the outside.

Lift the outer door towards you, feed the screw and the two spacer washers, and the locking washer through the screw hole, before putting the plastic washer through it.

Right then here we go - time for that new handle now! Offer the handle up to the screw and then screw it onto the door. When screwing on the first side of the door handle, make sure you don't screw it in too tightly (as you won’t be able to lift the other half up and screw it into place).

Now with this other half, what you should do is put the plastic washer into place first - then put the handle in place. Simply pop it down and put the screw and the other washers in place.

So far so good, but you only have half a door - so you need to attach the inner door back on now. Refit the screws and you can then fit your door back on the oven.

Make sure you hook the hinges up into the oven and then drop it down so it's nice and secure. Hook the hinges up into the oven at the door drop down, and finally, don’t forget to put the locks back in place.

A pat on the back is surely due, great work! Now cooking your favourite baked goodies don't have to be daunting anymore - thinking the handle might fall off any second.
