Hi, I'm Rory from eSpares, If your Dyson DC05 has lost suction, like most Dysons it's most probably for one of four reasons.
First thing you need to check is the filters, now, there's two filters in a DC05. This is the pre-motor filter, this is washable but if it's that dirty, it's worth just getting a replacement - just chucking it in. Second filter is just under here, this is the post-motor filter. Now, depending on which version of the DC05 you have, it may be that you have an H-layer filter here, or it may be like this one, that you have a HEPA filter. These aren't washable so just get rid of that, replace it with a nice clean one, put it in like that.
Now the second thing you need to check is for any blockages. There's only one piece of ducting on the vacuum itself, so make sure that isn't blocked. Do the same for the hose, as well as all this tubing here and the tool - just do anything you can to get it out. Same thing goes for the cone here, just make sure there's no blockages in there.
The next thing you can do is look for any splits or damage to the hose or seals, just go along like that, see if there's any splits, if there is, you need to replace the hose. Same goes for the seals, if there's any damage to them, there's a few around the machine, if there is, they will need replacing.
The last thing that could be causing loss of suction is the motor, which sits just under here. You'll probably know if it's the motor because it will be making a funny noise or you might be getting burning smells from it. If it is the motor, it's tricky enough to replace, but it is doable.
