Sebo vacuum cleaners remain very popular till this day and though they’re old-fashioned they work effortlessly as you may have spotted one in a hotel or even at work. However, over time the drive belts in them, can perish away or damage from daily use.
Replacing a drive belt is a fairly simple task, so if you’re unsure where to start you’ve come to the right place for advice.
This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.
What You Will Need:
Step 1 - Safety Advice
Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.
Step 2 - Remove Top Half of Machine
On the sebo X1 vacuum cleaner to remove the top half of the appliance, we need to push down on the release catch in the centre allowing you to lift it away.
Step 3 - Open Vacuum Base Up
Now with the upper half out of the way we need to get into the base. Start by removing the exhaust cover and filter, and then turn the base over. There will be lots of screws on the base but the ones to remove are the ones holding the main wheel in place.
Now turn it onto its side and remove the brush roll which should then release the top cover allowing you to lift it off.
Step 4 - Detaching Motor Cover, Control Module and Bumper Strip
With the cover removed, you’ll see both drive belts. There will be one belt that runs between the brush roll and the clutch, and one that runs between the clutch and the motor. Either of these can be damaged, so ensure to check them both.
To get to the belt system, we need to remove the motor cover and control module which are held in place by screws. Note: When removing the control board, ensure to unplug the electrical connections. Then we need to remove the rubber bumper strip, which just pulls off.
Lastly, remove the cover protecting the spindle and lever.
Step 5 - Fitting New Belts
We’re almost there...so we now need to remove the screws holding the brush roll spindle and clutch in place.
Now we can finally replace the belts, so firstly remove the brush roll spindle and the smaller belt and then the clutch and the larger belt.
Just pop the new belt on around the motor spindle and just rest the clutch in place, this can be a little bit tricky to get back in position correctly. The new belts are often a little bit tighter, so it can be a little harder to get it on.
Step 6 - Reassembly
Now that we have both belts in the correct position, we can out the screws back in place and reassemble the complete appliance.
To put the machine back together, we need to work in reverse to how we started. So after refitting the screws to hold the brush roll spindle and clutch in place, we can reattach the bumper strip. Then in goes the lever followed by the cover.
Now to screw back on the control module, replug the connections, reattach the motor cover and finishing off with the main cover on. All in place and screwed back together. Job done!
