Occasionally we may give the cable on our vacuum cleaners a slightly more aggressive tug then we should - this could then result in a damaged power cord.
This guide will talk you through you how to replace the cable on your Sebo X1 vacuum cleaner. However it is also worth noting that you could also replace cable far easier by replacing the entire handle assembly which comes with the power cable.
For those who are feeling a little more adventurous follow our step by step guide and you’ll see how to split the handle and replace the cable, meaning that instead of replacing an entire assembly you just need to replace the cable.
This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a Sebo machine, other makes may be different but the procedure should be similar.

Step 1 - Safety Advice
Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.
Step 2 – Separating the Handle Assembly
To begin you will need to remove the two screws one which is located at the top of the handle and one under the handle on the back.
With the screws removed you can now separate the handle assembly - this will split into two parts. Upon revealing the wires you will see that the live and neutral go into their corresponding points.
The cable should also be going into a cable protector - the protector acts as a guard stopping the cable from simply getting yanked out. Carrying on you will now need to un-wire the old cable and wire in the new one.
Step 3 – Feeding the Cable
Start by unscrewing the cable protector, once removed you can then unclip the wires from the protector. Now you can remove the handle as the new cable will takes its place and feed the new cable back into the handle. It needs to be fitted in the same way that the original was fitted,
Now you can take the protector and fit the wires into it. Ensure that you hold the cable tight to get the protector correctly into position. Once nice and tidy you can now re-screw the protector back in place so it protects the new cable.
Step 4 – Refitting the Handle
Put the two pieces of the handle back together, rescrew them in place and hey presto! You have just replaced the wire all by yourself.
Some people may never perform this repair as they could find it too difficult, however you’ve come, you saw and you’ve just fixed your vacuum cleaner. As you have opted to try repairing you cleaner you have just saved yourself time and money. All while increasing your DIY knowledge.
