How to replace the guard on a Flymo Grass Trimmer step by step
Let's get stuck in! To learn how to replace your Flymo grass trimmer's guard, simply follow the how-to video or the step by step guide below.
Step 1: Find your trimmer's model and product numbers
To make sure you purchase the correct guard for your Flymo grass trimmer, you're going to need to know the trimmer's model and product numbers. These numbers can be found on the rating plate which is usually located on the base, back or side of the trimmer.
Your trimmer's model number will be made up of both letters and numbers. Each trimmer will also have its own unique product number. The product number will consist of seven digits, followed by a dash and two more digits, and will start with the number 9 as shown in the picture below. If you need more help with locating your Flymo's trimmer model and product numbers, you can head to the finding model numbers page on our website.
Once you have located these numbers on your trimmer, you can find the correct part on our online shop.
Step 2: Remove the spool cover
Once you have your replacement guard, begin the process of removing the old one by removing the spool cover. To do this, push in the two clips on either side and lift the cover away.
Step 3: Remove the spool and line
Beneath the cover, you will see the trimmer's spool and line. To remove these, simply lift out the spool and carefully pull the lines out as well.
Step 4: Remove the guard
To remove the guard, you will need a flat head screwdriver. Using the screwdriver, push down into the two clips on either side of the guard to release it. Then turn the guard clockwise to remove it.
Step 5: Fit the new guard
To fit the new guard, line it up with the two arrows on the trimmer. Slot the guard over these, then turn it anti-clockwise to click it into place.
Step 6: Refit the spool and line
Next, slot the spool back into place and feed the lines back through on either side. You can then turn the spool itself to get the line to the correct length on both sides, which is around the length of the line stop.
Step 7: Refit the spool cover
Finally, refit the spool cover by holding in the clips on either side and pushing it back into place.
And that's all there is to successfully replacing the guard on a Flymo grass trimmer. We hope this guide has helped you keep your trimmer working and in tip-top shape!
