Pre-Motor Filter
There are two filters on a DC07, the first is the pre-motor filter, which are washable and is recommended by Dyson to be washed at least every 6 months.
The pre motor filter also acts as a protection to the motor, trapping the smallest of dirt or debris from travelling to the motor. Therefore, having a blocked motor filter will reduce the suction in your vacuum cleaner.
Step 1 - Removing Old Filter
To access the pre-motor filter, simply press the catch beside the canister and pull the filter housing away from the vacuum cleaner's body.
Step 2 - Cleaning and Replacing The Filter
Let's get cleaning…just wash it under the tap, under warm water, both the casing and the sponge itself. Don’t forget to give the sponge a good squeeze to make sure there is no excess water before leaving it to dry completely.
Although it's washable it's a good idea, if it's really dirty or caked with dust, replace it with a new one. It can only be washed so many times, it starts to fall apart eventually.
The replacement filter may look slightly different to the one supplied with your vacuum cleaner, but it will perform exactly the same function. To replace the filter back in the machine, simply pop the filter in the pre-motor housing and then click the housing in the vacuum cleaner.
Post-Motor Filter
The second filter is the post motor filter and this is located under the dust canister. This filter is also supposed to be cleaned every 6 months but it does depend on how much you vacuum of course.
It is really important that you keep this filter very clean because, if it gets clogged, it can cause the motor to overheat and cause damage to the internal parts.
Step 1 - Removing Old Filter
The second filter is the post motor filter and this is located under the dust canister, so you just need to remove the canister by pressing the release button on the top to get it off.
With that out of the way, you now need to remove the cover, which can be a little fiddly to take off. So, be very careful when removing the cover, as something the lugs on the cover can snap. Once the cover is off you’ll see the filter sitting in the housing.
Step 2 - Cleaning And Fitting The Filter
Now according to our video we have the standard pad post-motor filter, some DC07 are fitted with a HEPA filter. The HEPA (High Efficient Particle Arrester) filter traps very small dust particles, making it ideal for homes with allergy sufferers.
If your DC07 has a HEPA filter then make sure you replace it with that one, which just slots into place, it really is that easy.
