If your tumble dryer isn't drying correctly or you are experiencing mould around the door, it could simply be down to a damaged door seal. If the door seal is split or has become worn, air will escape through the door and affect the performance of your tumble dryer or can cause condensation to leak out. In this article, we will show you how to remove the door seal and replace it with a new one.
How do I know if my door seal is faulty?
There are a few tumble dryer issues that are caused by a faulty door seal. Door seals help contain heat so if your dryer isn't heating up or drying clothes correctly, this could mean heat is escaping due to your damaged door seal. Moist air can also exit the machine due to this and cause mould to form around your tumble dryer. Another sign is that lint and fluff are becoming stuck between the door and the glass. If you are experiencing any of these issues and you suspect your door seal could be causing the problem, you will need to replace it.

What you'll need:
Safety First!
Before you carry out this repair, be sure to switch off your tumble dryer and fully disconnect it from the mains.
Step 1: Remove the door
To get to the door seal, you will need to remove the door itself. To do this, first, remove the two screws on the door hinge. As well as the screws there is also a hook that keeps the door in place. Remove this and then lift the door off.
If you're completing the work on the top of your tumble dryer, it's a good idea to place some carpet tile down to protect the top of your appliance and the door itself.
Step 2: Remove the filter
Remove the filter by sliding it out from the door.
Step 3: Remove the outer door panel
The outer door panel is held in place at the top by tabs that are around the outside. To release the two pieces of the door, you will need to use a flat-headed screwdriver and ease it into the slots to release the tabs.
Once the tabs are released, you can slide the door out of the outer door panel and move it out of the way.
Step 4: Access the door seal
To access the seal, you will need to unscrew the inner door panel. To do this, you will need to remove the five Torx head screws that are holding it in place.
You can then lift it off and you will be able to see the inner door with the door seal around the outside.
Step 5: Remove the door seal
The door seal is easy to remove. All you need to do is lift it out of position.
Cleaning Tip:
While you're there and just before you fit the new door seal, it's a good idea to give the door a good clean. All you need to do is wipe it down with a clean cloth.
Step 6: Fit the new door seal
Now it's time to fit your new door seal. To do this, find the lip in the door seal and fit it all the way around the edge of the door. You may need to stretch it slightly to fit it over when you get to the final edge.
Step 7: Refit the inner door
Reattach the inner door panel and refit the 5 screws.
Step 8: Refit the tabs
Then, use your flat-headed screwdriver to refit the tabs at the top of the door.
Step 9: Replace the filter
Slide the filter back into the door.
Step 10: Refit the door and hinge
Place the door into position and refit the screws as well as the hook that holds it in place. Once you have done this, test the door to make sure it is opening and closing as it should.
We hope this video has helped you replace the faulty door seal on your tumble dryer and your appliance is back up and running again!
