How to Replace the Door Lock on a Hoover Washing Machine

If you find that the door on your Hoover washing machine isn't locking properly, it means the door lock is faulty. When this happens, you'll need to replace the door lock to get your washer back in working order. Read on for our full step-by-step guide on how to replace the door lock on a Hoover washing machine and get your appliance's door locking properly again!

Before buying a new door lock, you'll first need to know your washing machine's model number as this number will help ensure you buy the correct part for your particular appliance. Before starting your repair, always make sure your appliance has been switched off and unplugged from the wall.

To access the old door lock and remove it, you'll first need to remove your washing machine's top panel. Using your 7mm socket, remove the three nuts that hold the top panel in place at the back.

With the nuts removed, you can then remove the top panel by sliding it backwards before safely placing it to one side.

Once the top panel has been removed, you'll be able to see the door interlock inside the machine beside the door opening, as pictured below.

To remove the door lock, you'll need to do a couple of things simultaneously. With one hand, firmly grab hold of the door lock inside the machine and put pressure on it towards the door's opening...

Whilst doing this, hold your screwdriver with your other hand and press the blade into the two door lock lugs from the outside of the machine.

Doing this will work the door lock free, allowing you to pull it out of the top of the machine. However, the door lock will still be connected to the washing machine by its electrical connection plug.

To fully remove the old door lock, simply pull the plug off of the door lock by hand.

Now it's time to start fitting the new door lock. Start by plugging the electrical connection onto the new door lock.

You can then fit the door lock into place inside the machine. Get the door lock into position from the inside...

Then slot it into place in its socket, working the inner side into place first and then the outer side. You'll need to make sure both the small lugs are firmly slotted into place in their holes above and below too.

With the new door lock securely in place, you can refit the top panel by sliding it back into place from the back of the washing machine.

Once in place, secure the washing machine's top panel by refitting the three nuts that hold it in place at the rear, again using your 7mm socket.

That's all there is to replacing the door lock on a Hoover washing machine! Your appliance's door should now be properly locking shut once more.
