Tumble dryers are perfect especially when you need to dry that top to go out in, however if the motor runs and the drum does not spin your clothes are not going to dry.
If this is a problem you’re being faced with then it is likely the belt has snapped therefore we show you how to replace the belt yourself. Understanding how to perform these kind of repairs will not only save you money, but also prolong the life of your tumble dryer.
This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.
What You Will Need:
Step 1 - Safety Advice
Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.
Step 2 - Removing the top cover
Let us begin - to start you will need to remove the top of the appliance by undoing the two screws at the back. Next you will need to remove the kick strip at the bottom of the machine. Your particular dryer may require the use of a flat-headed screwdriver for this.
You can then undo the screws to allow you to release the side panel along with the four screws on the back.
Step 3 - Creating Space
With the top and side panels removed you will now be able to remove the old damaged belt - if it has snapped then it should just lift out. To fit the new one you will need to create a gap between the drum and the cabinet on the machine.
To do this remove the screws down the side, this will allow you to move the back of the machine and the drum away.
Step 4 - Fitting the Belt
To fit the new belt what you’ll need to pull the back of the machine and the drum away from the front and then drop it through the gap. With the belt over the drum you can relocate the drum onto the front panel.
With the drum in place you can begin to re-screw all four screws which hold the side panel in place to make the cabinet more rigid this will ensure you can securely fit the belt onto the motor spindle.
Step 5 - Reassembling the Dryer
With the side panel and the drum secure, you can now stretch the belt over the motor spindle, using a flat headed screwdriver for that with a long neck, this will provide you with a little extra leverage when fitting the belt. When you do this, to make sure the drum doesn't come away from the front panel.
Next, you need to do is to hold the cabinet in place and spin the drum so the belt moves securely onto the motor spindle. With the belt in place, it’s just a case of putting the appliance back together.
The side panel fits on by locating it over the three hooks at the bottom and two locating tabs at the front of the machine.
Simply refit the screws in place and hey presto you’ve just repaired your tumble dryers faulty belt.
