How to Replace a Washing Machine / Tumble Dryer Door Hinge – AEG

Has constant use of your washing machine or tumble dryer taken its toll on the door hinge? If it has, then you may need to replace it.

In the above video, with the help of our experienced team, we explain how to replace the washing machine / tumble dryer door hinge, and below we’ve compiled a simple step-by-step guide which takes you through every point covered in our video.

Safety First! Please make sure that you’ve switched off your appliance and disconnected it from the mains before beginning any repair.

Step 1: The first step is to remove the door from the machine, by unscrewing the screws holding it in place using a Torx head key.

Step 2: With the door removed, you’ll need to gain access to the part of the door hinge which is covered by the door seal. To do this, you’ll need to remove the retaining band which is clipped into place and then simply pull the door seal away from the machine.

Step 3: Unscrew the screws from the hinge, taking care not to drop any parts inside of the appliance. Once the screws are undone, close the hinge and feed it through the gap, so that it can be removed from the appliance.

Step 4: With the hinge removed from the appliance, remove the hinge cover plate from the old hinge and place this onto the new hinge, before putting the new hinge in place, by reversing steps three to one.

There you have it, a step-by-step guide to replacing a washing machine / tumble dryer door hinge on an AEG model, helping it to perform to its optimum level.

Hi, I’m Helen from eSpares, and in this video I’ll be replacing the door hinge on an AEG washer dryer. The door hinge can get damaged by being overextended or pushed or pulled down. A damaged hinge will stop the door from closing properly.

The only tools that we need for this job are a set of torx head keys which can be found on espares.co.uk.  I’m going to start by removing the door. The door hinge is attached to the machine from the inside so we need to get inside the door seal to unscrew it. To do that we have to remove the retaining band, which is just clipped into place and then simply pull the door seal away from the machine.

I’m now going to unscrew these screws and remove the door hinge. Make sure you hold the hinge from the inside so that you don’t lose the bits inside the machine.  Okay, so I’m just removing the last screw here. Then to get it through the gap I need to close the main part of the hinge and feed it through and that’s the old hinge removed.

We now need to remove the hinge cover plate from the old hinge and put it on the new hinge. Then we need to put the new hinge into place. To do this and make it easier to get in through the hole here we need to close the main part of the hinge but leave the smaller part open. Once this is in place we just need to screw it back on (note: an extra pair of hands comes in handy here).

Now that’s in place I just need to replace the door seal and the retaining band. Then it’s simply a matter of replacing the door. There we go! That’s the door hinge replaced.
