How to Replace a Tumble Dryer Heater (Hoover)

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

The first thing that we need to do is remove the top panel of the machine and to do so undo the two top screws at the back. And with a little tug on the front the panel should pull away.

Once that's done, the next step is to take off the control panel which is held in place by a couple of screws at the top.

Now that we have the control panel out the way, we can move onto removing the lower front panel, that simply pops off, same with the door seal and then we need to unscrew and remove the door.

With the door out the way we need to remove the front panel, held in place by eight screws, two at the top, two at the bottom and four that hold it into place in the centre.

Before removing the door panel altogether don’t forget to disconnect the two electrical connections that hold the lock into place on the front panel.

Great work so far…the next to remove is the fan that's behind the front lower cover. So first we need to unscrew this cover, there is also a smaller cover covering the fan itself so pull that out, and now remove the fan blade itself. Use a socket extension to access the fan nut and hold the fan to unscrew the nut.

With the nut loosened you can pull the fan and washers out. The next thing we need to do is to remove the upper surround by lifting and hinging the bottom away to bring it fully out.

To access the heater we need to unscrew the screws that are holding the heater cover into place.

Once the heater cover is out of the way we can see the heater; easy enough to remove just undo the two screws that hold it into place.

With the heater unscrewed you can let it drop and pull the rubber grommet out to access the wires behind.

Now you must be thinking why did we take the front off, the heaters are at the back? Well, the reason is to access the cable grip that holds the wires and cables of the heater close to the back of the machine. If you don't reconnect the heater wires, they will be able to move freely within the appliance and can get trapped within the moving parts.

So to release the clip inside the machine grab a pair of pliers, pinch the clamp and push it through the back of the appliance.

You're now free to pull the wires through, being very careful, as there won’t be much space to manoeuvre with these wires. So grab your new heater and transfer the wires one at a time, obviously using the coordinating wire with the coordinating plug.

Once you’ve transferred all your cables from the new heater, replace the rubber grommet, gently push the wires back into the appliance and then you can screw the heater to the back.

With the heater screwed in place make sure the cables are all neatly in position, before re-attaching the heater cover.

Now to refit the cable clamp to the back of the appliance.

To refit the cable clamp you have to reach through the machine, get hold of the clamp and reposition it at the back of the appliance. Once aligned just push it through.

Almost done, we promise…all that's left to do is reassemble the appliance. In goes the upper fan surrounding, followed by the fan; which is tightened in with the nut. Not forgetting the fan cover.

When fitting the front panel remember to reattach the door lock electrical connections.

To finish pop the door seal and lower front panel on followed by rescrewing the control panel and top cover back on.
