Most Hotpoint and Indesit condenser tumble dryers will have a water container at the top located next to the control panel. If the water container handle suddenly breaks it can make it hard to remove the water container after each cycle has finished.
If you’ve never replaced the water container drawer handle on your dryer before, you may be stuck in a rut wondering where to begin. Our how-to article below is sure to give you the reassurance to complete the repair yourself without calling the professionals.
This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.
What You Will Need:
Step 1 - Safety Advice
Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.
Step 2 - Remove the Plastic Housing From the Fascia Handle
There is a plastic housing that sits behind the water container handle and joins onto the water container. This can be hard to remove, but we’ll guide you through the procedure.
You’ll need to remove the drawer front and the water tank from the dryer. Carefully place it on a flat surface.
As you can see in this video the plastic housing holds the water reservoir in place with these pre-fitted clips. The bracket is held securely to the handle by these two lugs on both sides, accompanied with an outer clip.
To remove the plastic housing from the handle we suggest you use a flathead screwdriver to ease off the two lugs without removing the outer clip.
Using your screwdriver place it between the pip and the bracket; you should be able to remove one lug first. You can do the same for the second lug. The bracket should then unhinge and release from the two lugs on the opposite sides.
Step 3 - Fit the New Housing to the Handle
To fit your new bracket and drawer together you can do the reverse of disassembling the old part.
To position the lugs correctly align them with the bracket on one side and the other side should simply clip into place.
Step 4 - Fit the Handle to the Water Tank
You can now pop your new handle onto the water tank. It should easily slide and click into place.
You’ve now replaced the water container handle on your tumble dryer and we hope you’re feeling quite proud of yourself. If you need to locate the correct spare for your tumble dryer, start your search with eSpares today.
