How to Repair an Oven Door

Whether it being for repair or simple maintenance taking your oven's door apart is actually not as daunting a task as you may have thought.

In the video below Matt from eSpares runs through the simple task of taking apart the door to give it a good clean however the processes are also perfect for when you need to perform any type of door repair.

Safety First! Please make sure that you have switched off or disconnected the appliance from the mains before beginning any repair.

To begin remove the door assembly from the oven - usually a simple task, all you need to do is release the hinge clasps (It is worth noting that other brands of oven may have different mechanisms - and refer to your manual for advice on how to remove the door)

With the door released, find a large area to rest it where you have enough room to disassemble without causing a clutter.

Time to separate the door! This is actually an easy step - you’ll need to identify the type of screw which holds the outer and inner glass in place and unscrew them. In the video; the door was held together with torx screws and Matt used a torx head screwdriver to take out the screws.

Once the screws have been removed you can separate the outer and inner door - be careful not to drop or lose the hinges as these are not secure to the door but instead they are wedged between both door glasses.

Removal of the handle is simple - simply undo the screws that hold the handle in place, once loose the handle will come away from the outer door panel.

At this stage of the video Matt gave the outer door a good clean using a non-caustic oven cleaner and a ceramic scraper to rid the inner glass of the burnt on grease. Both of these items can be found in our home cleaning section on the eSpares website.

Regardless of giving the door a good clean or replacing specific parts - the processes in this article are the same. Now once you have achieved what it was you wanted to achieve you’ll need to put the oven door back together again.

The steps are simple - once the handle has been secured back onto the outer door, you can line up the hinge holes with the hinges on the inside. Lower the inner door making sure that the hinges are in place - you can now screw the screws back in place to secure the door assembly together.

Once everything is back in place and secure you can fit the door back onto the oven (don’t forget to close the hinge clasps to ensure the door is secured in place).
