Hi I'm Mat from eSpares, in this video I'll be showing you how to maintain and refurbish a condenser tumble dryer.
If you have a tumble dryer it's a good idea to keep the filter as clean as possible to help maintain the machines efficiency. However if you have a condenser tumble dryer, or you have had yours for some time it's a good idea to employ more detailed maintenance. This not only prolongs the life of your machine, but also helps on costs both with running and repairing the appliance.
Now safety first, always unplug the machine before carrying out any work.
The next thing you’re going to do with your tumble dryer is clean the airways of any fluff or lint that may have built up. Using a vacuum cleaner, vacuum the filters, their housings and also the condenser housing. It's a good idea to soak any filter screens just to remove any further debris.
Next remove the condenser and housing, and the best way to clean this is to stand it in a bowl and run hot water through it, leave it to soak to soften up any fluff that might be on there, and repeat the process until the condenser is clean. Once your condenser is nice and clean, you can put that back into the machine, I've also put the filter that was in the door aperture, back in the door as well.
What I have had to replace is the inner door panel here because the seal was breaking away, as you can see here, I've also replaced the outer door seal which connects the door directly, as this was showing signs of wear and tear. Remember all these parts are available on the eSpares website.
Now the next thing I need to do is to remove the side panels to gain access to the inside of the machine where I can have a good vacuum around in there as well.
If I take the top off first you can see the amount of dust that has collected inside here and the fluff and lint, give that a good vacuuming. Then what I'll do is take the sides off so I can gain access to underneath the drum to get rid of all that fluff and lint down there as well. Now with the side panels off I can use the vacuum cleaner to remove any fluff or lint that's inside.
With all the fluff removed from the inside, while you are here it’s a good idea to check your belt to make sure it isn't damaged in any way. Also check the tension pulleys underneath, to make sure they run evenly and quiet.
Now if your machine makes a constant droning noise it's a good idea to check the fans located here and here. By removing the cover you can check how they spin by gently moving the drum. Now if you fan moves any more than that it's probably a good idea to replace it.
So there we have it a great way to maintain and if necessary refurbish your condenser tumble dryer. Tumble dryer spares for all makes and manufactures can be found on the eSpares website.
