If your oven door seal has perished it may lead to your oven not being able to retain the heat inside, causing hot air to leak outside. This may also cause problems with your food being unevenly cooked.
If you’ve never fitted an oven gasket before, don’t worry. Follow our guide below to fix your cooker safely and without that expensive call out charge.
Universal door seals are brilliant, especially if the original gasket is obsolete or you cannot locate your appliance model number.
eSpares offers two types of universal seals for cookers: one with corners at 90-degree angles and one which has rounded corners. In this video the model we’re working on comes with these rounded metal connectors, to allow the seal to be fixed in an arc at the four corners.
The universal rounded corner kit is supplied with 4 corner brackets along with a length of the rubber seal, which can easily be cut to size.
By looking at the model shown in this video, if the gasket was fitted at right angles the seal would simply sit on top of this lip and not seal the oven properly.
This oven has a small groove in the cavity where the original seal would have been fitted, but as it’s unavailable we’re using the seal with rounded corners to fit precisely.
This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

What You Will Need
Step 1 - Safety Advice
Safety First! Please make sure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before beginning any repair.
Step 2 - Measure The Distance Between The Holes
Take your trusty tape measure and measure between the holes both vertically and horizontally and write down your sizes. eSpares Top Tip: measure twice and cut once.
Step 3 - Check The Measurements Against The Supplied Manual
Having taken your measurements you need to cut the universal seal to size to make sure it fits to the oven cavity. To make sure the gasket is fitted tightly around the cavity, you will need to take a little bit off each side so you can stretch the seal into place ensuring no air escapes during cooking.
The instructions supplied with this kit are comprehensive and show you the amount needed to be taken off the seal each side.
For the model shown in the video the top and bottom both measure 46cm. This measurement falls into the lower row on the manual and means you will need to remove off an extra 35mm from both the top and bottom of the seal.
The sides measure 35cm, which fit into the top and second row on the manual. It recommends you remove 20mm off if it’s less than 35cm and 25mm off if it’s more than 35cm. To air on the side of caution, I will take off 23mm.
Step 4 - Cut The Door Gasket
To cut the seal place the tape measure on a flat surface and lock it into place. Take your door seal making sure not to stretch it and measure across the top and bottom, (remember we noted down 46cm earlier). We need to remove an additional 35mm as per the instructions, so we will be cutting at 42.5cm using a scissor. As we’ve now cut the top simply use this as a template for the bottom; (taking care not to stretch the seal).
Now let's do the sides. Remember we noted down a measurement of 35cm but we need to take account of the instructions and take off an extra 23mm, giving a final measurement of 32.7cm. Simply cut it as you previously did for the top and bottom.
Step 5 - Fit The Newly Cut Seal
Lay out the seal as it will be fitted inside the oven, with the ridges facing up. Your next job is to connect the metal connector; make sure the hook on the metal connector is pointing down when you’re fixing the seal inside. It’s worth noting the metal connectors have barbs fitted to ensure the seal does not come off, so prior to fitting confirm the measurements of the gasket are correct.
Carefully fit the seal into each of the four connectors and the gasket will be square and joined together.
The final step is to fit your seal to your oven.
