How to Fix a Tumble Dryer Door Lock Switch (Hotpoint, Indesit or Creda)

If your dryer will only run when you hold the start switch in, the fault is not likely to be the start switch. The likely cause will be that the door switch has failed. However, if your machine does not start at all by pressing the start button - then the issue may well be with the start switch behind.

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

The next thing I need to do is to remove the top of the appliance by undoing the screws at the back. You will now be able to remove the soap drawer, and you need to do this in order to be able to remove the front control panel.

Ok then, to remove the control panel you need to undo the screws that are at the top and also the screws that are holding the drawer housing in place.

The control panel is now only held in place by the knob, and you can ease it out. If yours is a bit stuck you can use a blunt knife or a butter knife, and just ease it very gently between the knob and the control panel - and it should help to ease the knob off.

With the knob removed the control panel is now just held in place by these four wires and also the lamp here. To remove the lamp just ease it off the top clip, and then the bottom clip and then you will be able to simply remove the wires from the control panel.

The wires for the switch are bundled together and held in place by a tie. All you need to do is simply squeeze that to release, and also the tab that holds the switch in place. Push that down and this should release the switch itself.

With the old switch out it's now a case of replacing the old wires from the old switch onto the new one.

With a new switch wired up you can now put it back into place.

Push the cable clip through, and then all you have to do is reconnect the wires to the control panel and refit the control panel itself.

With the control panel in place use the knob to hold it in position to refit the screws. Close the door and refit the water drawer. The last thing to do is to re screw in the top.
