If the filters are not cleaned regularly you will find that the suction performance will deteriorate possibly resulting your vacuum cleaner falling to fault.
Now no one wants a faulty vacuum cleaner as this will result in having to spend unnecessary money on new machine which could've been prevented by some simple maintenance.
The cleaner in this guide requires two filters the HEPA filter which sits inside dirt container and the antibacterial post motor filter. Both of these can be cleaned with warm water - therefore not requiring to be replaced unless of course they are damaged and perished.
This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

The HEPA Filter
To begin you need to remove the bin and turn it upside down - using the catch at the bottom you can lid the hatch up. Removing the filter is easy simply twist it and pull it out - due to location of this filter it can get clogged up very easily.
It is recommended to clean this filter every time the bin is emptied - to clean the filter simply rinse it under some warm water and let it dry for 24 hours. It is very important to only fit the filter again once it is completely dry otherwise the vacuum cleaner may become damaged.
To refit the filter simply put it back in place and twist it till it locks into position, then you can put the bin back into position.
The Post Motor Filter
Now the HEPA filter has been replaced you can next clean the post motor filter, a far simpler process - on the Vax VEC04 locate the post motor cover which can be found on the side.
Once found you can take the grill cover off and take out the filter - now because this filter does not collect as much dirt or dust this will only require cleaning once every 9 - 12 months. No different from the HEPA rinse it with some warm water and allow it to dry, and after 24 hours once dry you can fit in back into the cleaner.
This guide of course is designed to talk you through replacing both filters for a Vax VEC04 vacuum cleaner - however the process should be quite similar for other cylinder vacuums.
