How to Clean a Microwave Oven

View all Microwave Spare Parts Now »

The first rule of cleaning is to clean up spills when they occur in your microwave, as this prevents baked-on food residues that are difficult to remove, and smell unpleasant. Here's our guide to choosing the right detergent for your microwave, and getting the job done as quickly as possible.

Cleaning The Microwave Roller Ring And Glass Turntable With Warm Water, Washing Up Liquid And A Cloth

Safety First! Please make sure your microwave is switched off and completely cool before beginning any cleaning task.

  • Remove the turntable and rotating ring, before cleaning them with warm water and washing up liquid in the sink. If you need to replace either of these, we've got loads of microwave spares.
  • Use a non-abrasive cleaner to remove dirt and grease from the inside of the microwave. If you've got a stainless steel microwave, use a dedicated steel cleaner to clean, shine, and protect the metal from future spills.
  • Pay particular attention to cleaning the door seal, control panel and exterior panels. Check that nothing is clogging the ventilation slots under or on top of the unit.
