In a previous article we ran through how to keep your lawnmower clean, however over time your electric mower's motor may require servicing. Regular maintenance can help prolong the life of your lawnmower, and in this article we have found some useful tips to guide you to safely clean your electric lawn mower's motor.
What You Will Need:
- Old Soft Paint Brush
- Screwdriver
- Lubricant (Check User Manual)
Step 1 - Safety Advice
Safety first: always unplug electric mowers before repairing, and keep the mains plug beside you so no-one can inadvertently reconnect the power supply. You should also wear safety gloves while working with blades.
Step 2 - The Housing
With the machine turned off, you will want to remove the retaining screws which hold the housing in place. Keep the screws in a safe place, once removed you can now lift off the housing.
Step 3 - Clearing the Debris
There will be some foam filters which protect the housing, remove these and then gently clear away any dried grass cuttings which have found their way inside the housing. It is recommended to remove these with your fingers or a soft brush, however remember to be gentle.
Step 4 - Dusting
There will most likely be dust around the inside of the motor - using a soft, old paintbrush (not the brush you used to remove the grass clippings) dust the motor again remembering to be careful. With the dust gone, inspect the housing for visible faults or bad connections.
Step 5 - Re-assembly
If you find any loose connections, these should be tightened up - you can apply some lubricant (if indicated in your manual) and then carefully refit the filters and housing.
